The Value of Understanding Your Revelations

“13 Blessed are those who find wisdom,

those who gain understanding,

14 for she is more profitable than silver

and yields better returns than gold.

15 She is more precious than rubies;

nothing you desire can compare with her.

16 Long life is in her right hand;

in her left hand are riches and honor.

17 Her ways are pleasant ways,

and all her paths are peace.

18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;

those who hold her fast will be blessed.”

“44 He said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’ 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.”

"For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open."

Revelation WITH Understanding

We like to receive revelation from God, but how much more valuable is revelation WITH understanding? I remember a meeting where God downloaded a message with such authority that those who were listening were riveted to the Word. As I was observing the listeners, I could see not only was their attention captured, but their hearts were engaged. They connected - not just in an “Aha!” moment, but WITH understanding too. They really got it! They knew the word spoken was significant for their destiny, and forward movement.

Following the meeting, we had many people ask for more teaching. They carried an expectation that the power of the revelation, would be translated in their lives to understanding and ultimately freedom. They knew they would not stay the same.

What is the difference between revelation and understanding?

Revelation is when something that is unknown to us, is made known, usually in a dramatic way. It also means a divine or supernatural disclosure where the hidden things are revealed. While understanding is the power to make revelation clear by applying it to your daily life.

How to Receive Revelation AND Understanding

God longs to reveal the hidden things about His thoughts towards us, about His character and about His ways. When we are open to receive, He will freely give us revelation. When we receive His revelation, the hidden things are revealed, but when we receive revelation AND understanding we have the ability to apply the “Aha!” moments to our daily lives.

Imagine this, we can have a revelation of Jesus as our Saviour, as our King, and as our Father, but it doesn't go any further than a wonderful concept if it just stays as a revelation. When it is coupled with the understanding as it applies to us – how we are to live, how we are to respond, how it changes our identity – we are activated to move with power and give "feet" to the word.

We can't just stop at an “Aha!” moment, because if we do, it remains as revelation only. However, maturity comes when we stay connected to the revelation long enough to receive understanding. Mark Virkler said that when God gives him revelation, he meditates on it for a number of months, often up to a year, so that he captures the fullness of the word activated deep in His heart. It then becomes a lasting word.

Let's go after revelation WITH understanding so we can walk out God’s word! Take the time to allow revelation to become more than a moment, so it will permeate your entire being. Let it capture your heart. It is life to our souls. It is what brings maturity in the Spirit!

Self-Reflection

Is there revelation that you have received that you need to camp on? What is it? What is God saying to you about it?

Practical Growth

Receive revelation AND build your understanding of the Holy Spirit in the new online group mentoring rooms Immersed. In this 4-week session you will learn who Holy Spirit is and receive new revelation of Him. We will then take this revelation and you will be taught how to incorporate it into our everyday living.

God bless.
